HARRISBURG – Rep. Stephenie Scialabba (R-12) and Sen. Elder Vogel Jr. (R-47) announced more than $2.1 million in state funding from the Local Share Account (LSA) Program is on its way to their districts in Butler County to assist with four community improvement projects.

“I was happy to advocate for these funds – they are taxpayer dollars, after all, and are being rightfully returned to their source. It is excellent to see these worthwhile local projects receive a boost from state funding,” said Scialabba.

“These profound investments will prove to bolster our municipalities here in Butler County as well as enhance the county’s ability to provide safe and enjoyable spaces for residents to appreciate,” said Vogel.

The funding and project descriptions are as follows:
• Evans City Borough: $600,000 to address severe flooding stemming from its stormwater system. The project will relocate utilities and install five new outfalls and associated storm sewers that tie into the existing storm sewer systems of Dunbar Avenue, Sarah Alley, Martin Alley, Wahl Avenue and Stewart Alley.
• Zelienople Borough: $600,000 to enhance an existing green space that will increase outdoor seating areas and accommodate pedestrian traffic. The Main Street Parklet will provide clean, maintained and open areas for public use including events, such as the community's annual Fall Festival and Horse-Trading Days. The project includes the demolition and removal of present obstacles, and the installation of sidewalks, benches, retaining wall and planters.
• Mars Borough: $500,000 to replace an aged cast iron waterline on Crowe Avenue between the borough line and Pittsburgh Street. This line serves 19 housing units and some of the line is suspected to be lead.
• Jackson Township: $472,095 to make a trail connection from the Connoquenessing Valley Elementary School and Zelienople Park to the recently purchased Swampoodle Property into Harmony Borough and Swampoodle Park in Harmony Borough. The project will consist of wetland delineation, wetland mitigation design and monitoring, site grading, and stormwater mitigation.

The grants were approved and awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, which was established as an independent agency that holds fiduciary responsibility over the funding of programs and investments in Pennsylvania’s economic growth. LSA grants are derived from gaming revenues.
