HARRISBURG – Rep. Stephenie Scialabba (R-Butler) partnered with the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) to host a small business roundtable discussion on Wednesday to field ideas on how lawmakers can put forth policies that protect and insulate small businesses from regulatory and legislative burdens.
“Small businesses are not smaller versions of large corporations. Small business owners dedicate their lives, time and capital in an effort to run a successful, local company,” said Scialabba. “Around 20 business owners were able to find coverage so that they could attend without closing for a few hours. Several others had to leave partway through or cancel because of staffing issues. That is just one problem that hits heavier with small businesses.”
Scialabba said some topics of interest during this event were market predictions, legislation on the horizon and additional policy initiatives in Harrisburg to protect small businesses.
“I believe in commonsense measures that propel economic growth: reduce taxes, help small businesses and domestic energy production, and responsibly scale back the regulatory environment across our major industries,” said Scialabba. “Less is more, and it is imperative that we repeal overly burdensome regulations so that our businesses can flourish.”
The roundtable discussion featured Greg Moreland, NFIB state director, as the guest speaker.
“It is refreshing to have Rep. Scialabba engage in a discussion with small business owners. We are at a pivotal time for small businesses with many threats on the horizon, and we appreciate her efforts to understand our positions and her willingness to champion small business issues,” said Moreland.
